The Walking Dead ‘All That Remains’ review. Featuring zombies, nasty humans, and quality story telling. Business as usual, after the break, from Telltale. Season 1 spoilers enclosed.

Season 1 of The Walking Dead game, phenomenal. The level of emotion, attachment even, from the characters let everyone know Telltale means business. The studio are on fire, I mean The Wolf Among Us is doing great; they’ve even got a Game of Thrones game on the way! But wait, that’s awesome and everything but what about season 2? Season 2 starts off strong, I’ll say that up front.

Season 2, after the tragical and bloody upsetting death of the lead character Lee, see’s you taking control of Clementine. The little girl you fought so hard to protect previously, unfortunately she quickly finds out that she has no option but to fend for her self. In now typical Telltale fashion, the story for episode 1,of this season, is gripping. I found myself, at one point, cursing Telltale for what they did. They took a stereotypical storyline piece and and flipped it, punching a hole in the heart of this reviewer. Well played.

Graphics? They are obviously familiar. It’s the game creators signature style, but that isn’t a bad thing. The visuals do seem better, somehow, and the settings used shine. It really is like watching a comic book.

An area of season 2 that is much improved over the previous season? Mechanics. A few new mechanics first used in The Wolf Among Us have made their way over. The action scenes now feel more involved, not as linear, and they can go wrong. I often miss press buttons and find myself worrying I’m about to die!

One worry I had about season 2? The lead character. After the death of Lee, which is still a painful memory, I thought Clementine would be the logical main character. But, for some reason I had my doubts Telltale would go that way. To my surprise, they did. It’s amazing really, you tried your best to protect her in season 1, and now your doing the same but from her perspective. Making decisions as Clem is difficult, you really don’t know how to react sometimes. At the end of the day she is a little girl; you really don’t want her involved in this world.

Overall thoughts:
Excellent return to The Walking Dead game universe, improved mechanics, and a solid storyline. Enjoyed season 1? What the hell are you waiting for, go buy this game now.
