My Chivalry Medieval Warfare 2013 one hour impression. Frantic swinging, lots of arguing and a fair amount of fun!
This is not a review, well it’s kind of a review, it is more like a first impressions post. Screen Critix recently set up a Steam account, hey we are well modern, and as a result you get access to free gameplay on a weekend for select games. This weekend Chivalry Medieval Warfare took our fancy!
Chivalry is a multiplayer action game, that is set in medieval times, that sees hordes of players battling against each other in various modes. In my hour experience with the game I got to play the followed modes: King of the hill, free for all and team objective.
The most enjoyable seemed to be team objective where the aim of the game is to burn down a village, or defending your castle. Trying to strategically position myself to catch surging players off guard was quite fun. Even if I did get absolutely battered.
The actual gameplay is interesting, if not quite difficult, as you choose a type of player. The choices are Archer, Vanguard, Man-at-Arms and Knight. I surprised myself by finding Vanguard my most successful class. Not that you can tell much from an hour to be fair. Once that player type is chosen you then play a given role, as a Vanguard I tried my best to use distance to catch my opponent. It was a lot of fun trying to use tactics while someone is trying to furiously chop off your head. The game forces you to try and fight smart, if you don’t you get killed fast, using block seems to be a must. It is very easy to get overwhelmed by players who seem to be elusive.
The usual online banter was present in the game, but not as bad as some others, where players argued over kicking each other. I am just glad I didn’t get a kick vote against me for dying so much!
Would I play the game more?
If I were to play the game again it would be with friends. I imagine teaming up as a group would be awesome, all trying to work as a team playing different classes, and the amusement of headset banter. Even though Battlefield 3 didn’t end well …. “YOUR A MEDIC, USE REZ YOU IDIOT!”.
