Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons review

Check out our Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons review.

brothers-a-tale-of-two-sonsBrothers: A Tale Of Two Sons tells the story of, you guessed it, a pair of brothers. The duo go on an adventure to get something that will heal a sick man; and have to face the likes of trolls, giants, dogs and more.

The game lasts around 3 hours, and isn’t the most challenging. I found myself on auto-pilot quite a lot of the time; only on occasion did I have to think about the puzzles. The hardest challenge of the game? The controls. Having to control one brother per thumbstick was an absolute pain at times. Luckily, I read online keeping the brothers at separate sides, at all times, made the game easier. It must be pointed out that developer Starbreeze Studio were brave to try these controls, and attempted to create something unique. On the occasions that it worked, usually when the duo were climbing in sync, this daring control scheme was interesting.

The puzzles? As mentioned, the puzzles really didn’t seem that challenging. They usually came in the form of having to use one character, for example the smaller brother to squeezing into gaps to find levers, to operate something that the other needed to get to another location.

In bizarre fashion the last half of the game is far more enjoyable than the start. One ‘level’, if you will, saw the duo wading threw a giants battlefield; having to find ways to move these giant warriors. While still not challenging, it was however very atmospheric. It’s worth mentioning that the game environments, soundtrack and ending were done well throughout the game.

Overall thoughts:

If you are in the market for a digital game, and don’t mind the frustrating controls. Go for it, you might just enjoy the charm of the game.
