Turbo (2013) review

Theo the snail dreams of being a racing car driver and, after a series of events, finds himself in the Indy 500 in the animated film Turbo. Review after the jump.

Brought to the big screen by Dreamworks, Ryan Reynolds lends his voice to Theo, a snail who is obsessed with race cars and the champion driver Guy Gagne. The other snails nearby, including his brother Chet (Paul Giamatti) believe Theo to be one sandwich short of a picnic. Turbo

Theo soon wanders off and, after a freak accident that sees him caught in a drag race, ends up injected with Nitrous Oxide – turning him into the fastest living creature on the planet. He and Chet are took in by Tito – a taco store owner with his brother – and then taken to the Indy 500 race to compete.

A star-studded cast provide the voices to the film, including Luis Guzman, Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion), Samuel L Jackson, Bill Hader and Ken Jeong from the Hangover, the latter playing an old fiery Chinese woman.

Not only is Turbo a great family movie with some excellent funny moments, the film also has some good morals too. The main one being that you shouldn’t give up on your dream and don’t let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve said dream. Theo’s super powers only get him so far and, to overcome adversity, he needs to rely on pure grit and determination.

Kids will love Turbo and parents will too.
