Check out the Catching Fire review from Screen Critix. Before I had watched the first movie I had the initial impression that The Hunger Games was a teen movie. Oh was I wrong! I knew as soon as I watched the first one I would want to see the second. With all of its original cast (bar the contestants that died) it doesn’t fail on performance, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a great new film and the best I have seen in a long time.
“The visual effects are even better than the first movie. Being the only female writer on Screen Critix at the moment I am allowed to say, I want her dress!”
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are set to do tours around all the districts who start seeing them as icons of hope. This causes problems for the Capitol and as part of the celebration of the 75th Hunger Games, previous champions must take part. What could the result of this be? How will Katniss or Peeta survive second year running with experienced killers?
The plot and story of this movie keep you intrigued of what is going to happen next. I needed to pee from halfway through this movie and did not dare go to miss anything. It did not help when a certain part made me physically jump out my skin (thankfully I didn’t pee my pants). It made me laugh after as it was that bad, however a little boy sitting near me started to cry. This taught his parents a lesson that just because it is rated a 12A movie, does not mean it is suitable for a five year old. After watching I would say that this movie is suitable for mature ten year olds and onward. Considering the movie has violence, dictatorship control aspects and an unpredictable plot, I feel sorry the little boy as he probably didn’t understand what the hell was going on.
The visual effects are even better than the first movie. Being the only female writer on Screen Critix at the moment I am allowed to say, I want her dress! After studying Film Studies at A level, I learnt how to predict signs of what was going to happen later on in movies. I could not see the twist with this movie and how it was going to pan out. You know something is going on, but you never really get the slightest hint of what it is. I gathered some hints about the Hunger Games arena from the first movie, Catching Fire confirmed some of my theories.
All the cast play their parts great, no sniff of bad acting coming from any direction. The crazy outfits coming out in their strange ways as well as some comical lines, yet mainly serious throughout with obvious reason.
Absolutely nothing felt out of place in this movie. Full of action, suspense and an interesting narrative. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone, as long as you have seen the first one too, of course. By the end of the film you are clearly able to see there is going to be a third movie. Well, that’s not all folks as there will actually be four! Due to be released 2014 and 2015, let’s hope they are the same quality as the first two, they would make a truly epic addition to your movie collection.
