The Hunger Games gets parodied in this movie from the makers of Meet the Spartans and Disaster Movie. Review for The Starving Games after the jump.
When we first heard that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer had made another parody movie, only this time based around the Hunger Games, our hopes remained low. After all, the duo are also the partnership that developed the god awful Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie and Vampires Suck films.
From the opening credits, we knew that The Starving Games would be bad. The jokes don’t work one bit, and the immature slapstick comedy will not even raise a smirk.
Kantmiss Evershot (that’s about as good as this gets) enters The Starving Games in order to save her sister and try and bring some salvation to her small family, thanks to the promise of an old ham, a voucher for Subway and a half eaten pickle.
Other films are thrown in to the mix with reckless abandonment, most likely due to the makers being desperate for laughs. For example, back in the district, the people are walking to the square, when Harry Potter turns up for no reason whatsoever.
For the most part, the acting is bad as are what little special effects are in the movie. The Starving Games had a budget of $4.5 million and it leaves me wondering who is giving these two “directors” money? Surely the money could be put to better use than making really (really!) bad movies.
We can’t finish the review on just bad notes, so I have had a hard think of a positive…the lead actress Maiara Walsh looks a bit like Jennifer Lawrence and isn’t bad. Hopefully her career can survive this travesty and she becomes more wise with choosing her roles.
