Now that Daniel Craig is busy with being 007, Jason Statham will take over in the main role of Viva La Madness, which is the Layer Cake sequel.
Deadline have reported that Jason Statham and his producing partner Steve Chasman have picked up the rights to the J.J. Connolly novel Viva La Madness, which is the sequel to Layer Cake. Connolly will now be working on a script for it.
Daniel Craig had the main role in Layer Cake, but has since become an A-lister thanks to his turns in Skyfall, Casino Royale, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Cowboys & Aliens. With him out, Statham will now take over.
Here is a synopsis of Viva La Madness:
The authentic voice of British gangster fiction, J.J. Connolly, is back with his trademark razor-sharp dialogue and quick-fire violence. From the London underworld he portrayed brilliantly in Layer Cake, the plot of Viva la Madness goes international, with trans-Atlantic drug deals, money laundering and high-tech electronic fraud, described with the same uncanny believability. The anonymous hero of Layer Cake is pulled back into the drug game before he can enjoy a sunny retirement. From living the high-life in the Caribbean to a dangerous existence in London, with Venezuelan drug cartels toting machine-guns in Mayfair, the story moves from violence and farce to criminal insanity.
Statham started his career with cockney gangster roles in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, before he moved onto action films. Let’s see if it is a welcome return. Will you be watching the Layer Cake Sequel?
