Why there will be a THOR 3

Care & share:

With Thor: The Dark World doing incredibly well in the box office worldwide, Screen Critix very own resident Marvel fan, Carl Burgess gives his reasons why he thinks Thor 3 will definitely happen.

It has to be said, the Marvel film studio has to be the most exciting thing in films for a long time. Not only have they got a back-catalogue of amazing characters and thousands of stories, but they are doing things right. Creating the Marvel Universe as a whole, with all their characters (that they own the movie rights to) crossing over and living in the same world is genius. Having different phases and then ending each said phase with a huge Avengers movie has captured the imagination of fans around the world and, in return, brought huge revenues for the studio. thor 2 Why there will be a THOR 3

Thor was released last Wednesday and has already got off to a great start.  Could it earn more than Iron Man 3? Probably not, but it could be the next biggest Marvel movie that doesn’t feature Robert Downey Jnr.

We believe that a third Thor film will definitely happen. Kevin Feige has already stated that it could go ahead in the future, but we feel that he is keeping his cards close to his chest and the Asgardian Prince will have another outing.

Money, Money, Money

As stated, Thor is doing well. It hasn’t had a general release yet, but it has still managed to pull in $109 million. It is set to be released in North America on November 8th, where it should exceed there too. The first Thor film generated $449 million worldwide after 16 weeks. To earn $109 million on limited release in just four days shows a huge improvement.

Marvel are out to make money and make their fans happy, if Thor is becoming such a hit at the movies, why not give their fans at least one more film based around the hammer-wielding superhero?

Loki means trouble

Spoiler alert! The twist in Thor: The Dark World was a good one. Originally thought to be killed by Kurse (although Loki also killed him) we thought that we may have seen the last of Thor’s brother. Yet the end scene had us believe that Thor is talking to his father Odin, only for Odin to change into Loki once left alone. What does this mean? Has Loki killed Odin?

There is no doubt about it, Loki is a massive fan-favourite. Fans are calling out for Loki to have his own movie, but he will most likely serve a purpose more in a third Thor film. If Loki has killed Odin, then Thor will want to take care of him once and for all.

The mid-credits scene

Many people may not know or understand what happened during the mid-credits scene.  Asgardians Lady Sif and Volstagg take the Aether to a strange alien called The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) to keep safe. Telling him that they are already holding the Teseract and Odin doesn’t feel he should have two Infinity Stones together.

Infinity Stones!!!

Holy cow, the Teseract and the Aether are Infinity Stones!! Those who don’t know, the Infinity Stones are incredibly powerful and there are five of them. In the Marvel comics, Thanos (who is seen briefly in The Avengers’ end-credits scene) manages to gain all five to make the Infinity Gauntlet. Once he has this, he becomes near invincible.

The Collector mutters to himself “One down, four to go” as the Agardians leave. Does this mean he is after the stones himself, or is Thanos using him to gather them in one place? Either way, to do so, they need to get the Teseract and, as mentioned above, it lies in Asgard. They need to go to Asgard to retrieve it and this is where Thor 3 may come in.

We know the next Avenger film is based around Ultron, so it may be until The Avengers 3 until we get the full Infinity storyline, but I for one cannot wait!
