The Toy Story gang return for a Halloween television special. Can Woody and Buzz save the day once again? Read the review after the jump.
When Bonnie’s mum picks up a flat tyre whilst on a road trip, the gang are forced to stay the night in a creepy motel. The toys, who are situated in Bonnie’s bag, are bored and Mr Potato Head decides to explore the room and look for any freebies that have come with the room. Mr Prickle Pants then informs the rest of the toys that the scenario they are in is just like a scene from a horror movie and to expect Potato Head to go missing – and of course he does.
Buzz and Woody then organise a search team, but one-by-one, each member is picked off, leaving Jessie on her own. Things don’t look good for the cow girl, but she soon bumps into Combat Carl – a toy who has been surviving the horrors of the hotel for some time.
Toy Story of Terror is only twenty minutes long, but you wish that it was for more. The charm of the previous three instalments is instilled in this short little episode. As usual, there are some brilliant in-jokes, keep an eye out for the Pez dispenser. Mr Prickle Pants, who first showed up in Toy Story 3, steals the show here and Combat Carl – who is voiced by Carl Weathers and looks like Carl Weathers’ character Dillon in Predator – is a toy that we hope returns, even though Sid blew one up in the very first Toy Story in 1995.
Toy Story of Terror really is excellent and makes us yearn for Toy Story 4 even more.
