After becoming a surprising hit earlier this year, The Purge 2 is set to start rolling before the year is out according to multiple sources.
What if, for one night only per year, there were no laws, and you could murder anyone you liked with no consequences? That was the question asked in this years The Purge, starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Hedley. The film became a surprise hit, so a sequel was never out of the question.
Now, due to being awarded $2.25 million in tax credits (along with 30 other projects) from the state of California, The Purge 2 is set to start filming.
Reports from Bloody Disgusting and Variety state that Jason Blum of Blumhouse will reunite with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sebastian Lemercier for Universal to create The Purge 2. James DeMonaco will also return in writing duties.
In order to receive the full tax credits, the team will need to jump through a few hoops, which includes having to start filming before the year is up, so that gives them a little over a month to start production.
There is no news on whether Ethan Hawke and Lena Hedley will return, but the story could be based on a completely different family altogether.
