The mascot of console giant Sega, it looks like Sonic the Hedgehog could very well be heading to the cinemas in the near future.
Sony Pictures, who have had hits recently with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Smurfs and The Amazing Spider-Man, have registered numerous internet domain names, all of which hint at the blue spikey one’s big screen debut.
The domains that have been registered are sonicthehedgehog-movie.com, sonicthehedgehog-movie.net and sonicthehedgehogmovie.net.
Sonic the Hedgehog was released on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis in 1991 to huge acclaim. That was followed by numerous sequels and spin-off (pun intended) games.
Sonic has already had a television series and a comic book in the past. It will be interesting to see if Sony opt to do an animated film or a mixture of live action like Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
