Mike Wazowski and Sully are back in Monsters University, a prequel to the hit Pixar movie from 2001 – Monsters, Inc. Read the review after the jump.
Released in 2001, Monsters, Inc. was a huge success around the world and earned Disney Pixar $562 million dollars at the box office. Now, twelve years later, the guys are back with a prequel.
Mike Wazowski wants nothing more in the world than to be a scarer, the only problem is, he isn’t scary. With incredible effort, he makes it into Monsters University along with James ‘Sully’ Sullivan. Whilst Sully is naturally scary, he lacks in the brain and effort departments. Competition between the two becomes fierce and, whilst trying to outdo each other, an accident occurs that sees both students kicked off the course.
Dejected, Mike realises there is a chance to be reinstated – The Scare Games. The only problem is, he needs a team of six monsters but only has four feeble looking creatures to partner up with, that is until Sully signs up. The guys then need to use team work to outdo the jocks and win the day.
Pixar has been a little hit and miss in recent years. For every Toy Story there’s a Cars. For every Finding Nemo there’s a Planes. Fortunately for us, Monsters University is great fun for all the family. Returning with more of the magic that made Monsters, Inc. such a great film, the prequel will have you laughing out loud and shouting for Mike and Sully to triumph over adversity.
The movie has many references to the first film and beloved characters show-up throughout. While the Monsters, Inc. was also heartfelt (saying goodbye to Boo, anyone?) this movie is made more just for laughs – and you will laugh.
The kids will love Monsters University and secretly, the adults will too.
