Having made a name for himself with the horror/thriller Kill List, Ben Wheatley has now signed up to direct two episodes of Doctor Who.
Emerging as one of the hottest prospects in film to emerge from the UK, Ben Wheatley’s career seems to be gaining momentum. Kill List, which saw two hitmen undertake a final job with horrific consequences, was fantastically received. He then followed that up with backpacking black comedy Sightseers and the A Field in England; the latter being the first time a film has been released on cinema, DVD/Blu Ray, video on demand and network television all on the same day.
Now, Wheatley has agreed to direct the first two episodes for the new season of Doctor Who. The current Doctor – Matt Smith – is all set to hand over the reins to Peter Capaldi in a Christmas special this year. The new series will be aired around August time in 2014.
Wheatley is said to be both exited and honoured at the prospect of directing the episodes.
“I’ve been a fan since childhood. I’m really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor.”
More on this when we have it.
