The planned remake of The Magnificent Seven has landed a director and a star, as Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington sign up to work together again.
The Magnificent Seven is a beloved western and a remake may cause fans to be concerned, but the announcement that Denzel Washington is now attached to star could calm those nerves. Washington will reunite with director Antoine Fuqua – the pair have already made Training Day and the upcoming The Equalizer, and will likely team up for the sequel to The Equalizer too. Of course, Washington won an Oscar for his performance in Training Day.
Funnily enough, The Magnificent Seven is actually a remake of The Seventh Samurai. The Seventh Samurai is also being remade, and we can’t help but wonder if the two films will go head-to-head at the box office. It would certainly spice things up.
It is as yet unknown who will join Washington in The Magnificent Seven, but if the producers want to do a worthy remake, they will need to fill the line-up with stars, just like the original.
More on the film when we have it.
