It what is the most disappointing news of the day, Will Smith has turned down the chance to star in the sequel to his first ever mega-hit movie Independence Day.
A sequel to ID4 has been talked about ever since the original hit the cinemas in 1996, now it is set to come to fruition in July 2016 – twenty years after. We had hoped to see a reunion of Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman, but it won’t happen.

Will Smith will not return as Captain Stephen Hiller which is a major bummer for fans of the original sci-fi hit.
ID Forever Part 1 will still go into production though, with the original team of director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin. James Vanderbilt will write the script.
ID4 made a brilliant $817 million worldwide in the boxoffice. It’s unknown if the sequel could equal or better it, but if the film had Will Smith, it would have been a major boost.
