The Governor’s story continues as he looks to survive after Woodsboro and his last encounter with Rick and co in ‘Dead Weight’. The Walking Dead series 4 episode 7 review, right here.
The following review will contain some spoilers.
Following on from last week, The Governor finds himself in a man-made pit only for his old associate Martinez to find him and pull him out. Martinez then informs him that there is a new camp and that he is in charge. The Governor acknowledges and he and his new adopted family move in to a caravan within the camp.
The psycho in him comes back
Martinez, The Governor and two other former soldiers within the camp going looking for supplies and come across beheaded corpses carrying signs saying Liar, Murderer and Rapist. They soon find a cabin and when the undead attack from within, it’s up to The Governor to come to the rescue.
Just when we think that the one-eyed former leader of Woodsboro is a changed man, the psycho in him comes back and he soon starts taking out the men in his camp in order to rule the roost once again.
‘Dead Weight’ is yet another great episode. The opening scene of The Governor and the young girl playing chess intercut with flashbacks of how they were found is brilliant. Veteran television director Jeremy Podeswa does a brilliant job, especially seeing that this is the first episode of The Walking Dead he has ever made.
The chess metaphor works well, with The Governor biding his time and thinking about what the right move would be next, both in his life and for the game.
We also can’t go without mentioning the ending. We pick up where we left off at the end of episode 5, with The Governor watching the prison, only this time he has spotted Michone and has her in his sights. Next week’s mid-season finale episode could be the best yet.
Overall Thoughts:
Once again, another brilliant and captivating episode of The Walking Dead. The Governor is quite possibly the most interesting character on television right now, and we are happy to look into what makes him tick more often. The Walking Dead series 4 episode 7 is a must-watch.
