Remember Me review

Our Remember Me Review. It was nice to see a new game come out with a female lead character. Sure you have the option to play females in some games, but they really intend you to play the male as the main lead role and don’t concentrate as much on the female side. It was also great to play as a character that looked good in skinny jeans and a leather jacket (said real life body shape does not flatter as much in those type of garments).

The story is about a young lady called Nilin. Living in a world where memories of individuals are the main factor of life and are all run through a program called Sensen. remember meStarting off the game Nilin has had her memory wiped in a laboratory and has to have help from her friend to escape. Her aim is to restore memories of herself and everyone else in the world. It seems a bit of a strange aim seeing as we would all like to have certain embarrassing memories forgotten forever, but you get to realise why when playing it.

Combat in the game consists of precise combos. You are given moves to unlock. Some for pure damage, healing, reduce cooldown time and others for focus. You need to time these combos whilst avoiding enemy attacks to get the results you want. Nilin also gains certain skills like the spammer. This helps her shoot certain buttons and enemies throughout the game and is constantly getting upgraded.

Focus builds up into two separate bars. When individually full you can use what they call a Pressen. A special ability that lasts a certain length of time. This helps defeat certain types of enemies, like the Sensen Dos Pressen stuns all surrounding enemies including the stealthed so you are able to attack them.

I found enemy fights to be varied, but they could be considered as unfair at times. On these occasions you would be fighting an enemy that required a particular Pressen to be able to defeat, it would take more than one Pressen to kill them. The standard cooldown time of a Pressen is 120-130 seconds. You can reduce this time with certain moves in a combo. Whilst you are trying to complete these combos you are also having to fight five plus enemies and dodge all their attacks. Some may even be shooting at you from afar. At times groups spawn one after another so if you have low health and then don’t dodge the new enemies attack you are down instantly. Whether you consider a person swearing at the screen several times at this, as unfair, is up to you. Maybe you will join in with me.

Nilin is able to change people’s memories. This is a special talent of hers and you get to do this a few times through the story. This involves watching a cinematic to see the actual memory. You then have to rewind the memory and select certain objects to change the outcome of this memory. Be careful what you select as it can change it to exactly the opposite of what you wanted and you will have to rewind back through it to change it again. No one wants that drunken night out to be made even more embarrassing than what it was.

If you want something different then this is the game to play. I did hit a couple of bugs in the game, but nothing major. One where I defeated a massive robot and when the cut scene ended I was stuck in the middle of its remains and had to bash the jump button several times to get free. It’s a good job it didn’t electrocute me otherwise the score of this review may have been slightly different.

Great story, different mechanics and possible sequel. Enjoyed it.
