If the members of the legendary group Queen have their way, Skyfall actor Ben Whishaw will play Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic.
A film based on the life of Freddie Mercury has been in the offing for quite a while now. Sasha Baron Cohen, known for his roles as Borat and Ali G, was attached to star as the Queen frontman, but pulled out when his idea of a gritty version of the film was decided against. A family friendly film is now likely to be made, with it being set around the time of Live Aid.
Ben Whishaw, who became the new Q in Skyfall , is now the favourite to play Mercury. The 33 year old actor is a favourite among the remaining band members. Like Mercury, Whishaw is also a gay man. He married his long-term partner Mark Bradshaw last year.
Whishaw can certainly act, but does he also have the voice to pull-off playing Freddie Mercury?
Freddie Mercury died of aids in 1991 and is rated by many as one of the greatest frontmen of all-time.
