We are now into Phase 2 of the Marvel movies, with all the lead characters being male super heroes. Well, that is about to change according to Natalie Portman.
Phase 2 started earlier this year with the third installment of Iron Man and continues next month with Thor: The Dark World. Natalie Portman returns as Jane Foster – Thor’s squeeze – and, although she is a central character, she isn’t a lead role. Much like the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, the Scarlett Johansson played superhero has yet to have a movie based on her.
This is about to change though, as Natalie Portman told SciFiNow,
“There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming – I have heard is coming – and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters.
“But they do definitely have strong female characters in them, and I think it’s a testament to the people who run Marvel, their respect, their just normal human respect for women, the way they want to characterize them; you can tell when men talk to you, as just a person or as a “woman.”
Which female superhero would you like to see in a title role?
