An incredible, and surprising, casting announcement has been made today – Michael Douglas has been cast as Henry ‘Hank’ Pym in Ant-man.
Marvel have today confirmed that veteran actor Michael Douglas will play Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. Douglas, who has starred in films like Wall Street, The Game, Fatal Attraction and Romancing the Stone, will bring some massive gravitas to the highly anticipated movie.
For those who don’t read the comics, Hank Pym is Ant-Man.
Wait, are you asking “wasn’t Paul Rudd cast as Ant-Man the other week?”
Well, yes he was. There have been three incarnations of Ant-Man and Paul Rudd will portray Scott Lang. It seems the movie will start with Douglas as Ant-Man in the 60’s when he invents the suit and the technology and then fast forward to now, as former burglar Scott Lang acquires the suit and uses it for good use.
This is what Marvel boss Kevin Feige had to say.
“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
This film just got even more exciting, if that was possible.
