Last Exile Fam, The Silver Wing part 1 review. The DVD is available now, and you can check our review right now. More after the break.
Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing part 1 see’s the titular character Fam, and her sky pirate buddies, steal ships, get involved in politics, and pilot some huge sky-floating ships. The core of the story see’s two factions, the Ades Federation and Turan Kingdom, involved in a dispute. One over powers the other, and then the real storyline starts. How would you rebuild your territory? Fam, our heroine, encourages a Princess to rebuild what is lost.
“All in all the animation is well done, and some of the sky battles are ok. But the series, so far, lacks any meatier battles.”
All in all the animation is well done, and some of the sky battles are ok. But the series, so far, lacks any meatier battles. Also, let’s be honest, the idea of teenagers outsmarting seasoned war veterans in inferior ships; is ridiculous. I mean, these ‘baddies’ are getting schooled by tiny ships and youngsters constantly. It’s daft.
The English voice track also presented an annoying time, my ears still hurt. I regret selecting the English soundtrack, and should’ve opted for the Japanese track.
Towards the last few episodes the storyline seemed to pick up pace, at last, and I began to see that the story could get better. The problem? It seems that every time an opportunity arrives for an epic moment; it either seems rushed, or simply doesn’t happen. A great example of this is the last episode of part 1: A chance to show a “Grand Race”, an important storyline mechanic, and they just (no pun intended) flew threw it.
Overall thoughts:
If you are invested in the Last Exile universe this will no doubt appeal to you, but if not; don’t bother. There are plenty of better options coming out to spend your cash on – for example Blue Exorcist, an Anime also by Manga UK that releases shortly.
