It’s been a long time since we have seen a new John McTiernan movie, but we have good news…..the director is back and signed on to make Red Squad.
Along with John Carpenter, James Cameron and of course Steven Spielberg; John McTiernan was one of the champion directors of the 1980’s, especially in the action genre. McTiernan made such classics as Predator and Die Hard before making Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Hunt for the Red October and Last Action hero.
His last film was Basic in 2003 and he has been quiet since, but now the 63 year old is set to return to the action genre with Red Squad.
According to the synopsis, Red Squad involves a former DEA agent who went rogue and now runs a team of mercenaries. Their latest mission takes them to Mexico, where they’ve been hired to “neutralise” a drug lord.
It sounds like a pretty much generic action film, but if McTiernan can work the magic he had in the 80’s, then it could become something special.
