In what has got to be the strangest piece of film news today, Warner Bros. has decided to ditch any plans for a sequel to I Am Legend and will instead reboot the film.
We are just starting to come round to the idea of remakes here at the Screen Critix office. It’s okay to give a new take on some old and classic stories – ones that today’s younger generation may not get to see due to them not wanting to watch older movies. We will also throw our hands up and admit that we did actually enjoy the likes of Robocop, Evil Dead, True Grit and Total Recall.
One thing we can’t get our head round though, are remakes of films still very fresh in the memory.
I Am Legend was only released in 2007!
Starring Will Smith, the film centred on a man who believes himself to be the last on Earth after an epidemic turned humans into terrifying creatures. Warner Bros. have been trying to find a way to create a prequel or have Will Smith return for a sequel, but due to the ending of the first movie, they have been left scratching their collective heads.
According to Deadline, Warner has bought a script by Gary Graham called A Garden at the End of the World. Apparently, the screenplay is quite close to that of I Am Legend, so the production company are going to use it as the basis for the reboot.
Strange.
What do you guys think? Would you like an I Am Legend reboot after just seven years?
