Actress Elizabeth Banks is to step behind the camera to direct Pitch Perfect 2 – a sequel to 2012’s surprise hit.
Once again, it was The Hollywood Reporter that got scoop. Banks, who starred in and produced Pitch Perfect will now direct the sequel, which marks the first time the actress has ever directed. Pitch Perfect 2 will be scripted by Kay Cannon, who also wrote the original. She and Banks will also produce alongside Paul Brooks, Jeff Levine and Max Handelman with Scott Niemeyer executive producing.
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are expected to return to the cast amongst others. The original movie was about an all-girl singing group and was acclaimed for its comedy moments. The movie became a sleeper hit and went on to make £113 million worldwide, which is not bad for a movie made for just $17 million.
Banks will most likely star in Pitch Perfect 2 as well. She will return later this year as Elfie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1.
