When Norfolk FM is taken over by a gunman holding a grudge, only one man can help – mid-day dj Alan Partridge. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa review right here.

It’s been a good few years since Alan Partridge last hit our television screens with his hilarious show, now he is back in the movie Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. Still on the radio at Norfolk FM, Alan (Steve Coogan) finds out that his job is on the line when a new corporation purchases the station.

It’s down to him and night radio DJ Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney) as the person who will be replaced by some new blood. Alan pleads with the board to “sack Pat” and his wish comes true. alan partridge: alpha papa

Pat, who has lost his wife and now has nothing to live for, doesn’t want to leave easily and holds the station and everyone inside hostage at gunpoint.

Alan Partridge is one of the funniest characters UK television has ever seen and, for the most part, everything works brilliantly in film form.

Alan is soon put into position as the go-between for the police and Pat, while becoming a hero for everyone viewing the proceedings.

Many of the jokes that made the series so popular are brought back for the film. His brilliantly scripted questions to his listeners are back, such as “which monger is the worst – Iron, fish or war?”. The movie also sees the return of characters such as Michael and Lynn. Lynn is still Alan’s assistant, while Michael now has a job as a security guard at the station, although he doesn’t secure very well – rather spending his time hidden in a cupboard when the heist begins.

Alan Partridge is one of the funniest characters UK television has ever seen and, for the most part, everything works brilliantly in film form. Spending the majority of the movie in just one location can sometimes make the story slow down, but a joke and a silly 80’s reference will soon make the audience forget and you will be laughing once again.

We are not sure if we will ever see Coogan as Alan Partridge again, but we shall be keeping our fingers crossed for another series or film – even if to hear the ridiculous jingles that accompany his show ‘Big questionnnnnn!’.

Overall Thoughts:

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa will go down of one of 2013’s funniest films. The jokes will make you laugh and you will find yourself singing along to Roachford’s Cuddly Toy.
