Agents Fitz and Ward are sent to disable a weapon in Russia in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 7 ‘The Hub’. Review after the jump.
Contains spoilers.
The team travel to the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters and we are introduced to a new character – Victoria Hand (played by Saffron Burrows). She tells Coulson that two members of his team are needed to disable a weapon and that Ward and scientist Fitz are the two for the job.
The duo start off in Russia and soon run into trouble with locals in a bar but, after working together, they find a way to get across the border and into the facility.
We start to expand upon the relationship between both Fitz and Simmons. What was briefly hinted at last week now becomes more obvious – they both have feelings for one another and not just in a professional capacity.
Simmons is nervous about Fitz, yet Skye says she can help put her mind at ease, but she will need to access level 8 classified information. They manage to hack the S.H.I.E.L.D. computer, only to find that no extraction has been planned by Victoria Hand – leaving the two agents as expendable.
Obviously, Coulson and crew won’t allow that to happen and go against protocol to retrieve their fellow agents.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 7 felt more like a great British spy episode than one to do with super heroes. We are now getting to know each character a little more, with the backgrounds and little secrets start to rise to the surface – see Skye’s “parental issues” and Coulson’s “killed by Loki but is back alive again”.
I’m sure questions will be answered soon, but before that, next week sees a tie-in instalment with the recently released movie Thor: The Dark World. We cannot wait.
