During an interview regarding preparing for The Wolverine 2, director James Mangold stated that the story could very well be based on a popular comic story arc.
The Wolverine hit the big screens earlier this year and saw the titular hero travel to Japan to take on the Silver Samurai and Viper, now, somewhat surprisingly, The Wolverine 2 is moving fast in development. 
During an interview with I Am Rogue, director James Mangold has hinted that the story could be based on an arc from the comic books.
“I can tell you that in determining where we are going I’m not solely relying on my own imagination, but also the imaginations that have spun great stories about Wolverine in the comics.”
The Wolverine led into the upcoming X:Men: Days of Future Past, so it is not known as to which arc he is referring to. We for one, can’t wait though.
