The trend for rebooting movies in Hollywood continues, with The Island of Dr Moreau looking to be the next high profile film to be remade.
The 1996 version of The Island of Dr Moreau will go down in history for all the wrong reasons. People had high hopes for a spectacular blockbuster when it was announced that both Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer would star, yet the project was filled with crazy problems. The shooting script was forever changed due to demands from replacement director John Frankenheimer, Brando and Kilmer. Brando had ballooned up to an extraordinary size. Kilmer was a nightmare throughout; not even turning up for the first two days of shooting. When he did turn up, he made many ridiculous demands. It was just problem after problem. The result ended up being that the movie was nearly unwatchable.
Now, looking to right wrongs for the H.G Wells classic story, Warner Bros have hired Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company to make a new and more appropriate version.
Hemlock Grove writers Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy will write the script. No news on who will direct or feature yet though.
