The Grand Budapest Hotel tells the story of a legendary concierge and his most loyal lobby boy. Check out our review of The Grand Budapest Hotel right here.

Wes Anderson is known for his slightly “out there” films. After all, he is the man behind such gems as The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore and Moonrise Kingdom. Now his latest offering, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is entertaining, achingly beautiful and funny.

A young writer whose name is not uttered (Jude Law) manages to be invited to dinner by the mysterious owner of the hotel for which he is staying. At the meal, the owner Mr. Moustafa tells his tale of how he came about to owning the establishment.

Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) and the two start an unlikely friendship that sees them on the run from the law, stealing a priceless painting and attempting a jail break. All this starts with the death of an old lady whom M. Gustave had sexual relations with in her later years and subsequently leaves him an item in her will that everybody (including her son) wants.

Of course, this isn’t really serious matter, as Anderson adds much humour to the proceedings throughout. The cast are all on top form, including support from Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Adrian Brody and Edward Norton to name but a few.

As we touched upon above, The Grand Budapest Hotel will most likely go down as the most stunningly beautiful movie of 2014. The colour grading is unique and stands out while some of the cinematography resembles a film from the 1920’s with modern CGI. It truly is something to behold.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a great film and we expect it to be placed on many “best of” lists at the end of the year. Look for it to receive a couple of Oscar nominations too.
