Spider-Man spin-offs incoming, in a totally original move to expand a franchise to multiple movies. X-Men, Avengers, and JLA movies; take that! Joking aside, please don’t ruin Venom. More after the break.
Crating a universe is now extremely important for superhero franchises, we get it, and Sony Pictures are getting on the train with everyone else. Today we’ve found out that the Amazing Spider-Man 3 is obviously getting written, but surprisingly Venom and The Sinister Six are on the way too. The former is obviously a much loved franchise, and lots didn’t like the original trilogies version. Well, it sucked? Yeah it did. But if the current Spider-Man films are anything to go by; Venom could be awesome. FYI: Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Ed Solomon are attached to Venom as writers. Kurtzman Will be looking to direct according to ComingSoon.net.
As for The Sinister Six, which will focus on the franchises villains, Hannah Minghella and Rachel O’Connor will take care of development. This will actually be very interesting, as I cannot remember a film that focused so heavily on the bad guys. Superhero films usually have such a heavy focus on ‘good’ that ‘bad’ never really has as much fun!
The films will all see Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard collaborating on the storyline development for all the films, and they will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.
The president of Columbia Pictures, Doug Belgrad, said: “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.”
