Sir Ian McKellen set to play Sherlock Holmes in new movie

September 5, 2013 By Carl Burgess Leave a Comment

Sir Ian McKellen has agreed to play an aged Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming film A Slight Trick of the Mind.

Hollywood Reporter has (ahem) reported that Sir Ian McKellen will be steeping into the shoes of the greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes, in a new film directed by Bill Condo. Both McKellen and Condo have worked together in the past, in 1998’s Gods and Monsters.

Apparently, the story revolves around Sherlock Holmes being a long-retired consulting detective who is still haunted by an unsolved case from 50 years ago.

There has been a resurgence of Sherlock Holmes in recent years. Robert Downey Jnr portrayed the character in two very successful blockbusters by director Guy Ritchie, and Benedict Cumberbatch has recently played Holmes in the television series Sherlock.

Filming for A Slight Trick of the Mind is set to start next year.
