Sigourney Weaver has talked to Neil Blomkamp about his ideas for a new Alien sequel and she believes the series could return, it seems.
Director of sci-fi hits District 9 and Elysium, Neil Blomkamp released some concept art he made for a further instalment in the Alien series, earlier this year. He stated that he would love to make a sequel and take the Alien films in a new direction. The art looked fantastic, but it seemed it was just a director talking about his fantasy project.
Now, it looks like it may have some legs after all.
Sigourney Weaver, who played the legendary Ellen Ripley in the four Alien films so far, has managed to talk to the director whilst on the set of his latest film Chappie.
“We started chatting about it on Chappie, like the first day. And he grew up watching these, I think he broke the tapes he watched them so much… But I was sort of surprised. He sent me a lot of artwork last spring and some ideas, and so you know…
“I think we’ll see what happens. We’ll see what happens. There’s no one I can imagine that would do a better job.”
Blomkamp himself has already stated that he feels the film will be greenlit, and it may very well happen in the near future. As for Weaver returning, that is still up in the air, as she has her reservations regarding the character.
Would you like to see Blomkamp’s Alien film? Would an Alien film without Ripley still be an Alien film to you? Let s know.
