The reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is left without a director once again, as John Chu has left the project.
Chu, who directed G.I. Joe: Retaliation has left the He-Man reboot – once rumoured to be called Grayskull. He becomes the second director to leave, following Kung Fu Panda’s John Stevenson exit after the project was picked up by Sony.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, with the movie now to be written by Terry Rossio. Rossio co-penned every Pirates of the Caribbean movie and The Lone Ranger. If those films are anything to go by, you can expect the He-Man reboot to have some fantastic set-pieces.
Starting as a cartoon in 1983, Masters of the Universe was a huge success around the world due to the many action figures. The story is set on Eternia, where there is a power struggle between good and evil. Prince Adam has a secret power and can turn into a warrior called He-Man in order to do battle with such memorable bad guys as Skeletor, King Hiss and Hordak.
A film was released in the late 80’s with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, but it bombed at the box office. Let’s hope they do a better job this time.
