Marc Foster to adapt Red Rising

After his roller-coaster ride directing World War Z, Marc Foster has his next big project pencilled in, as he will be adapting the Pierce Brown novel red Rising for the big screen.

Although World War Z has reportedly been a disaster in production (over budget, arguments, reshoots etc), the film still managed to do big business at the box office and is actually Brad Pitt’s biggest hit to date, believe it or not.

We reported a few months ago that Marc Foster would not be returning for the sequel and many wondered where the Quantum of Solace director would go from there. Well, we have our answer. He will be making a feature called Red Rising, based on Pierce Brown’s latest novel.  red rising

The following is a description of the plot courtesy of Empire Magazine.

“The novel is a sci-fi actioner set on Mars, at a time when it’s been colonised by humans, apparently due to the impending death of Earth. Sixteen-year-old Darrow is a “Helldiver”, one of the miners – the “Red” caste – who live a bleak existence below the surface, doing the desperately hard work required for the terraforming project.

The ruling class on the surface are the “Golds” meanwhile, but the social order is destined for a shake-up when Darrow discovers his life is premised on a lie. Disguised as a Gold, Darrow sets out to infitrate Mars’ corrupt masters and discover the truth, The extent of his success has yet to be revealed, since Red Rising is the first and so far only instalment in a planned trilogy.”

Sounds interesting doesn’t it? More on this project as it comes in.
