Kuroko’s Basketball season 1 review

Kuroko’s Basketball season 1 review. 25 episodes of pure basketball adrenaline. YOU do not want to miss this review.

Let me start by saying that before watching Kuroko’s Basketball I was skeptical. Sure, I don’t mind sports and basketball seemed cool, but, 25 episodes of the sport, how would that work? Let’s take a look at how that worked and how it is an Anime you should definitely watch.

For me the best Anime mean something. For example, watching Dragonball Z as a child made me have a martial arts interest, caused embarrassing hairstyle attempts, and encouraged working hard. Skip to 2013 and Kuroko’s Basketball has lit a fire under me. Watching the 25 episodes has inspired me to work harder at my chosen professions, to not be afraid to play the game different, and I even bought two basketballs. Which looked very strange as I presented them to the lady at the til.

The series itself is, obviously, centered around basketball. The game time animation is high octane, adrenaline packed, fun. Seriously, it gets your blood boiling like you are on the court with the team. One of the reasons I love Anime is because of the intensity it can bring, and somehow the creators of Kuroko’s Basketball have infused what you would expect from a battle Anime into sports.

The characters of the show are also a highlight. Kuroko? He’s everyone who’s ever faced overwhelming odds from not fitting the typical profile in a given profession. Kagami? He’s everyone who’s ever had raw talent but needs guidance to fulfill his potential. The entire roster, if you will, of characters are interesting. One of the core elements of the series is a set of characters called the ‘Generation of Miracles’; all of which are highly talented, seemingly arrogant in most cases, and worthy opponents to the protagonists. Minor spoiler, it just so happens that Kuroko has a connection to the ‘Generation of Miracles’.

Kuroko's Basketball posterSo, how does the series stack up over 25 episodes?

The pacing is very well done, and never feels like it’s moving too slow. If anything, the show is a roller coaster of action, emotion and FIGHTING SPIRIT! The show features some very interesting plot points, which I won’t spoil, and keeps you hooked. One particular part of the show just had me watching in pure dismay, another had my heart pounding, and another inspired me greatly. The show is a drug!

Overall:

Kuroko’s Basketball is a great Anime, and has a bit of everything while not losing focus on it’s strong theme. You will watch the show and want to play basketball, your blood will be pumped, and you will want to watch the next episode right away.

Additional Message:

I am very saddened to read about the threats received at various locations linked to the Anime/Manga. If the legacy of this project is in any way tarnished by some idiots threatening to poison people; that would be a real shame.
