John Henson, the son of the legendary Jim Henson, has died of a heart attack in his New York home. He was aged just 48 years old.
John Henson was the son of Jim, the creator of The Muppets, John also sometimes played Sweetums, the large hairy Muppets that towered over all the others. Much like his dad, John had a very creative mind and helped his father with his creations and even renovated a turn-of-the-century schoolhouse into a luxury home, with each room different from the others.
Of course, John was on the board at Jim Henson Co in Los Angeles, but he hardly dealt with the day-to-day running of the company, leaving that to others.
Henson is survived by his wife, Gyongyi; daughters Katrina and Sydney; sisters Lisa, Heather and Cheryl; and brother Brian.
The Muppets will return to the big screen this year with The Muppets Most Wanted, starring Ricky Gervais alongside the loveable puppets.
