The Suicide Squad movie hit a large roadblock last week when Tom Hardy quit the production and now reports state that Jake Gyllenhaal has passed on replacing him.
Fans around the world went crazy when the cast was announced for the Suicide Squad, and who can blame them as the names attached where pretty spectacular. Names such as Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney. The film looked set to be huge.
Then last week, news hit that Tom Hardy had pulled out of the production due to scheduling difficulties and fans groaned. Having Tom Hardy on board was a huge deal, as the talented Brit is one of the biggest stars right now. We then received rumours that Hardy wasn’t happy with his screen time nor the screenplay but the producers where looking to fill the gap left by Hardy by offering the role of Rick Flagg to Jake Gyllenhaal.
Now, we have heard today that Gyllenhaal has turned down the chance of performing in the DC mega movie and it could be for the same reasons that Hardy left.
Gyllenhaal, who has worked with director David Ayer before on End of Watch, would have been a great replacement for Hardy and is coming off an (arguably) best career performance in Nightcrawler.
So it is back to the drawing board for the makers of Suicide Squad. They will need to move fast though as production is about to start.
More on who will replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg as soon as we have it, along with rumours that Ben Affleck’s Batman will appear in some degree too.
