Fairy Tail Part 5 Blu-ray review (episodes 49-60). Natsu and the gang join forces with members from other wizard guilds to battle Oración Seis.

“I found the animation quality to be high, the battles fun, and the storyline seems to be heading toward more epic battles.”

You know the drill by now with ‘bigger’ Anime. One enemy down, next enemy loaded. That said Fairy Tail has it’s moments, the return of a ‘certain’ villain is intriguing. If I was to describe these 11 episodes in summary it would be ‘mayhem’. Whether that is a good thing or not I don’t know.

As stated the 11 episodes are frantic, but that’s arguably the charm of Fairy Tail, as the arrival of the dark guild Oración Seis see’s an immediate danger multiple ‘good’ guilds have to deal with. All the main characters as a result get fights, so if your favorite character is Natsu, Erza, Lucy, or Gray your in luck. The battle animation is always of a good standard with Fairy Tail, even if Natsu is quite overpowered, and that isn’t any different this time around.

Disappointingly, the trend of having 2.0 sound continues, for the original Japanese track, with Fairy Tail Part 5. I have no idea why this is the case, and I imagine that many Anime fans would love to have the original Japanese voice track. This is a Blu-ray release after all, people who buy these more expensive discs are doing so because of the increase in quality. We recently reviewed Wolf Children which featured 5.1 sound. So it’s not impossible.

Another noteworthy story mechanic is the introduction of ‘Wendy’ and ‘Carla’, two members of the guild Cait Shelter. Without spoiling the plot, Wendy has something in common with Natsu – but unlike Natsu, isn’t really a warrior type. The other character Carla, has much much more in common with Happy. She’s a flying cat too! But poor Happy, despite trying to be, isn’t of interest to the new cat. All in all the show introduced quiet a few characters, in a short space of time, and some characters really just feel like comedy ones. Which for some is fine, but others may find them irritating.

Overall thoughts:

A villains return, in peculiar fashion, is the point of interest. I found the animation quality to be high, the battles fun, and the storyline seems to be heading toward more epic battles. The Anime will have a hard time, however, competing with last seasons Laxus, Jellal, and Gajeel battles.
