Could a Marvel Runaways movie still happen?

September 25, 2013 By Carl Burgess Leave a Comment

Runaways is a Marvel comic that was set to be adapted to the big screen a few years back but put on hold. Could the series make it into Phase 3?

Debuting in 2003, the series sees a group of teenagers realise that their parents belong to an evil crime group called Pride. The teenagers then runaway and learn the gifts they have in order to bring Pride down. rynaways

Drew Pearce, who worked on the screenplay for Iron Man 3, had wrote a Runaways script that looked like it was going to be made, but was soon put on hold.

“We were really close to being made”, he said, “and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers“. And The Avengers was ultimately responsible for Runaways heading back to limbo. “Oddly, it pulled focus away from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s there – maybe it’ll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so, I’m really proud of it, and I think it’ll be a brilliant film”, Pearce said.

According to Kevin Feige, Marvel have many films planned and Phase 3 may be a little too soon for a Runaways film. Already rumoured for Phase 3 are such films as Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Hulk 2 and The Avengers 3. If that line-up does go ahead, there won’t be much room for a Runaways movie.

Let’s hope they get it sorted though.
