Following Marvel’s move to television with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, DC will now have their own spin-off show too, with Fox buying the rights to Gotham and Commissioner Gordon’s origin story.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D looks to be a hit already, so Fox have gone out of their way to outbid Warner Bros for the rights to bring Gotham to television sets around the world.
According to Deadline, the series will concentrate on a young Gordon and him moving up the ranks to the commissioner post in the Gotham Police Department. Batman will not be making an appearance, but you can bet that other faces will show up – possibly Harvey Dent, Oswald Copperpot and Black Mask.
There is no news on who will be playing Gordon in the series. The character was played by Gary Oldman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy and Pat Hingle in Tim Burton’s take on the films.
More on this when we have it.
