C Control review

November 13, 2013 By Kavita Rawal Leave a Comment

Having not heard of C Control before, I was interested to see what it would be about as the title of this anime doesn’t give much away. I find it to be in the same category as action and battle anime that have been released. Read our full C Control review after the break.

C Control

Name: C Control
Studio: Tatsunoko Production

Release Date: 14/10/2013(UK)

“The story makes you think hard about the underlying message in C-Control”

The story is about individuals that are chosen to be a part of the Financial District. Now this isn’t what us in real life would consider a financial district. This financial district is another world all together. Almost a virtual replica of the city it resides in, albeit looks different. Characters who get to go to the ‘Financial District’ get a ton of ‘Midas Money’ (counterfeit, yet no one in the real world knows of it) placed into their bank account, on the understanding that they must ‘deal’ with another player in the Financial District to get more and to keep their end of the bargain. We know how many people would agree to do this in our day and age…I most certainly would. Characters receive an asset which is a Financial District entity (they take many various forms), the asset is used when making a deal with another character, which involves spending money to use battle moves against each other. Whichever character loses the deal, loses money, but also it can make a bad consequence happen in the real world. The losing player may also become bankrupt. This means they are kicked out from the Financial District and the consequences in real world can be substantial. Losing deals in the Financial District effects the characters futures.

C Control has various different styles of art. Like some characters look different to others. Men that are drawn in the anime that don’t particularly have a big part have HUGE lips, compared to the main characters that have a couple of lines. Whether they are making a point that the non main characters are less appealing and unattractive, I am not sure.

Episode 6 caught me off guard in particular, one of the characters are taking a shower, nothing out of the ordinary. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye it screams at me…what about this side boob? You like that? Well you shouldn’t, as it’s anime side boob (with nip). I had to rewind it just to double check I had seen, what I saw. I felt it was a little random as there is no other scene like that in the whole 12 episodes.

The characters are likeable (most of them of course) and this anime has a good English dub if you prefer. Voice actors from other well known titles such as ‘Soul Eater’ are in this anime. Music fits in well with battles and gives the story atmosphere.

The story makes you think hard about the underlying message in C-Control. I personally think it is all about how the world is dependent on borrowing money. Without borrowing money the economy would collapse (as we have all pretty much seen) and how getting into too much debt can cause consequences for our future.

Overall this is an entertaining anime. Being 12 episodes it is slightly short, but may save people from going into debt. Quite fitting I think.

C Control is available at Anime On Line, right now!
