We have be waiting with eager breath for the casting announcement of Doctor Strange, and while it isn’t 100%, it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch will become the Sorcerer Supreme.
Deadline are reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch is currently in final negotiations to play Doctor Strange for Marvel’s Phase 3 of films. Many names have been thrown around for the character, including the likes of Joachim Phoenix, Jonny Depp, Tom Hardy, Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell; yet it seems the role has gone to Cumberbatch.
Benedict Cumberbatch has become a huge star in recent years. He started to gain the attention of the viewing public thanks to his magnificent turn as Sherlock Holmes in the updated television series alongside Martin Freeman. He has since transferred his talents to the big screen with relative ease in Star Trek Into Darkness, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and 12 Years a Slave. He has also lent his voice to the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit films.
Don’t be surprised if Cumberbatch is at least nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as Alan Turing in the upcoming The Imitation Game.
Doctor Strange is pencilled in for a 2016 release and will be a part of Marvel’s Phase 3 of movies. Other films set for Phase 3 include Ant-Man, Captain America 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Thor 3 is also rumoured to be set for Phase 3 but is not confirmed as yet.
