He may be best known for playing Golum in The Lord of the Rings, but British actor Andy Serkis is to tackle his first directorial job when he makes The Jungle Book.
Serkis has given the world some fantastic performances; his mocap work on The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, King Kong and Rise of the Planet of the Apes has been nothing short of spectacular. Now, after taking second unit director duties for The Hobbit, Serkis is set to make his directorial debut with the classic story by Rudyard Kipling.
Ron Howard was said to be in the running to make the live-action film, but Serkis has been given the job to adapt the book, which will be based on a screenplay by Callie Kloves.
There is another Jungle Book film being made, with Jon Favreau behind the camera and Idris Elba providing the voice to Shere Khan.
With two Jungle Book films on the way, who will win? Remember Armageddon and Deep Impact? Volcano and Dante’s Peak? Robin Hood and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves? K9 and Turner & Hooch?
