Hollywood Reporter has stated that Universal are gearing up to make a quick sequel to their recent hit comedy Ride Along, which scored big at the box office when it opened on Martin Luther King day. Tim Story is set to return to the director’s chair, whilst Hart and Ice Cube are in final talks to return as their roles of a security guard and Atlanta cop.

The following is from the Hollywood Reporter,

“While news that Universal was looking at a sequel came out back in April, the big success of the comedy over the past month had cemented Universal’s plans to move forward. Phil Hay and MattManfredi are writing the script, and Will Packer and Cube Vision will produce.

Ride Along opened over the January four-day holiday weekend to $48.6 million, the best opening of all time for the MLK frame, beating 2008’s Cloverfield ($46.1 million). Costing a modest $25 million to make and nabbing an A CinemaScore, the film stayed in the No. 1 spot for three weeks straight and has earned  $117 million domestically to date.

Hart, who has had a string of successful films over the past year, is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams. Ice Cube, who will next appear in 22 Jump Street, is repped by Prospect Park and Ziffren, Brittenham.”
