Following on for the surprisingly good First Class, Days of Future Past combines both the new cast and that of the original trilogy to make an epic superhero movie for the ages. Sometime in the future, giant mutant-killing robots called Sentinels are making the mutant gene obsolete. At the end of their tether, the last survivors which include, Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine and Kitty Pryde develop a plan to send Wolverine back in to the past in order to stop an event that causes a chain reaction and the development of the Sentinels. Wolverine must stop Mystique from killing Trask, the Sentinel inventor in the 1970’s.

As always, this isn’t easy as it seems, as Wolverine must convince a younger Professor X that he has the ability to make a change and show a young Magneto that humans and mutants can live in harmony.

Director Bryan Singer, who made the first two X-Men films, returns for Days of Future Past and he does an exceptional job. The story stays loyal to the comic books, and has numerous set-pieces that all look outstanding. x-men poster

Those who saw the early picture of Quicksilver and instantly felt disappointed can all breathe, the character is done brilliantly well and he has the best scene in the whole movie – one that is an amazing spectacle and hilarious at the same time.

All the actors are on top form, including Michael Fassbender, James Macavoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Sir Ian McKellan, Sir Patrick Stewart and Nicholas Hoult.  There are loads of little in-jokes and tie-ins to the X-Men series of films to make every fan happy. Watch it now.

Overall Thoughts:

X-Men: Days of Future Past is not only an early contender for the best blockbuster of 2014, but it will also go down as one of the best superhero movies of all-time.

5 / 5 stars
