“The story is overshadowed by how perverse the anime is”

Shocked. This is the most questionable anime I have watched to date. I have no idea how this passed the licensing review. Anyway, the story follows ‘nice guy’ and ex-vampire Koyomi Araragi as he deals with problems both personal and of the supernatural variety. In-between any attempts at a storyline we the viewer are subjected to many inappropriate scenes. Other than that the show features many, often highly confusing, conversations about love and hate; featuring double meanings that often escalate to beyond baffling.

The episodes play out with Koyomi conversing with various females in his life. All the cast are teenagers or young children, you never see any parents and to what I can tell only one adult character makes an appearance. The story is overshadowed by how perverse the anime is; the levels of inappropriate range from the main character trying to look up a young girls skirt, to constant and not needed angles, all the way to a bath scene between a teenager and a 9 or 10 year old girl. The latter scene, if not animated, would never be allowed to be shown on TV.

So, the animation? Unfortunately it’s well done. Some of the visuals are stunning, but this is ultimately overshadowed, as previously stated, by what can only be described as uncomfortable watching.

Overall thoughts:

Don’t waste your money.
