The sequel to 1996 blockbuster Independence Day apparently has two scripts, one if Will Smith returns and one for if he decides to pass on the project.
Roland Emmerich has been talking about a sequel to his Alien invasion film ID4 for years. The mega hit, which starred Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum among others, was a huge success and one of the biggest surprises of 1996.
Emmerich was recently vocal about the sequel whilst promoting his White House Down action film, and even stated that Will Smith, who originally quaffed at the idea of a sequel, is actually no interested in coming back to take on more aliens.
Now, it is rumoured that James Vanderbilt, who wrote White House Down and The Amazing Spiderman, has rewrote to scripts for Independence Day 2 – one featuring Will Smith’s character and one without.
Will Smith played Captain Stephen Hiller in the original. There are also rumours that Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman could be returning to the sequel, should it happen.
