Well, February has been and gone in the blink of an eye. Whilst the Screen Critix offices have still been cold over the previous month, the films reviewed have managed to bring some warmth. Here are the winners of February’s Screen Critix Awards.
Throughout February, we were treated to a stellar line-up of films and web series. It’s worth noting that, surprisingly, we didn’t receive any documentaries this month, leaving that category unclaimed. Nevertheless, we’re excited to recognize our standout favourites below. And remember, all winners from each month will contend for our prestigious annual awards come year-end. If you missed our January winners, you can catch up on them right here.
Best Feature Film – “Never Any Blue”

Written, directed, and starring Charles Curtice, “Never Any Blue” chronicles the journey of an A-list actor grappling with the loss of his fiancée and battling alcoholism. Curtice deserves applause for his multi-faceted performance and skilful direction behind the camera.
Best Short Film – “The Lost Weekend”

Delving into the complexities of toxic masculinity, “The Lost Weekend” revolves around a beach house excursion where a young man finds himself subjected to bullying and coercion by a so-called friend. Boasting strong performances, particularly from lead actor Brendan Egan, this short film comes highly recommended.
Best Actor – Brendan Egan (“The Lost Weekend”)

Brendan Egan shines as James, a reserved young man navigating the turbulent waters of toxic behaviour in “The Lost Weekend.” His portrayal exudes vulnerability and likability, showcasing his talent in handling challenging material with finesse.
Best Actress – Leota Rhodes (“Sunrise Boulevard”)

In “Sunrise Boulevard,” which follows a Hollywood clinic offering radical inspiration to struggling artists, Leota Rhodes delivers a captivating performance as Ms. Donen, an actress seeking enlightenment through “method acting.” Rhodes lights up the screen with her portrayal, bringing depth and authenticity to her character.
As we bid farewell to February, here’s to hoping March brings an abundance of exceptional features, shorts, and documentaries. Congratulations to all of February’s deserving winners, and here’s to another month filled with cinematic treasures.
