A short documentary, Nothing to Something gives an inside look on the inner workings of Keith Major – a top freelance photographer. Read our review right here.
Directed by a young upcoming director in Michael Artiles, Nothing to Something lets us see Keith Major at work. Although the short is little over ten minutes long, both Artiles and Major manage to cram a lot of information in, making the documentary fly by.
You may recognise Keith Major as one of the judges from America’s Next Top Model, working alongside the likes of Tyra Banks. Here you get to see him in his own studio preparing and during photo shoots. He talks about how he became a photographer and what equipment he uses.
Artiles, who took up the cinematography duties on the documentary, keeps us interested by the use of his own shots. Unlike some other documentaries we have seen, Artiles doesn’t just have Major talking to the camera; he keeps the flow nicely paced with action shots, cutaways to parts of the studio and other footage.
Major certainly knows his stuff when it comes to photography and the love of his job is very evident. Artiles does exceptionally well to get this across.
Nothing to Something is a well-made and well-presented short documentary that is a must see for anyone interested in photography. Even if photography isn’t a hobby of yours, once you have watched these ten minutes of film, you will likely start scouring Ebay for a camera so you can have a go yourself. Another wish is that we could have seen even more, I enjoyed the ten minutes so much, I was hoping to find an extended version that lasted over an hour.
