Jeff Goldblum to return for Independence Day 2

Will Smith may not be returning for the sequel to Independence Day, but one of the main actors definitely is – Jeff Goldblum.

Independence Day was the biggest film of 1996. It saw Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum team-up to stop an alien invasion. A sequel has been planned ever since the studio behind ID4 saw how much money the Sci-fi hit managed to rake in, but to no avail. Until now.goldblum

Will Smith, who went onto become one of the biggest stars in the world, thanks to such hits as the Men in Black trilogy, I am Legend, I Robot, Enemy of the State and Hancock, has decided not to return to the sequel of Independence Day. Strangely enough, ID4 is still to this day, Will Smith’s biggest hit to date. He has recently starred in After Earth, which was very poor to say the least.

Fans of the original can at least gain pleasure from the fact that Jeff Goldblum will be returning as David Levinson.
Talking to Time, Goldblum let us in on the following information.

“I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me”.

Independence Day 2 is pencilled in for a release on July 1st 2006 – Twenty years after the original came out.
